Firefighter fitness is more than workouts and annual evaluations. It’s about being ready to perform when it matters most and sustaining that readiness over a career.

During the 2026 Firefighter Safety Stand Down, join Lexipol to explore what it truly means to be “Fit to Serve, Fit for Life.” In this panel discussion, leaders from across the fire service will explore the dynamic between fitness and fireground performance. You’ll hear how departments can move beyond minimum standards, create more realistic training environments, and build a culture where every firefighter is prepared to meet the demands of the job.

You will learn:

  • Why physical fitness is not enough to ensure fireground effectiveness.
  • The limitations of annual testing and baseline metrics, and how to measure and improve real-world performance.
  • The difference between fitness training and job-specific training and why both are needed.
  • How company officers and leaders can effectively address performance gaps and foster a culture that prioritizes continuous improvement over checkbox compliance.
