8 Ways to Build Budget Resiliency in 2027

Wednesday, December 9 | 1 pm Eastern (60 Minutes)

Regular training strengthens performance. When policy and daily practice align, you reduce risk and improve readiness.

Budget pressure is only part of what’s testing fire and EMS agencies heading into 2027. Property tax reform, competing priorities within your governing body, rising claims costs, and an uncertain funding outlook all come down to the same question: Can your department plan ahead, or is it left reacting?

Join Lexipol for a practical conversation with Battalion Chief (Ret.) Bruce Bjorge, Chief Darin Wallentine, and former City Manager Dan Brown, who bring perspectives from small and volunteer departments, large agencies, and the city manager’s office on what it takes to lead into 2027. They will explore eight practical strategies for building budget resiliency, including how to prepare for funding changes, make the case for what your department truly needs, and be ready for the next unexpected event.

You’ll Learn:

  • How to prepare for tax and funding changes and engage policymakers before decisions are made.
  • How to build the “why” behind your budget requests so city managers, elected officials, and fire district boards understand the impact on the community.
  • The importance of separating wants from needs and considering how spending decisions look to the public.
  • Why your budget must account for emerging threats, evolving technologies, and changing claims costs.
